DDwho (Microblog #7)

Yes! Hello! I am back!

Today we are going to be looking at why pesticides are considered so bad. The poor things have been getting yelled at for like 20 years... should they be?

Plot twist: yes

(released footage of pesticide in action)

Anyway, what do they do anyway?

Pesticides basically act to destroy the breathing systems of cells that they touch. This is particularly lethal to insects because they don't have many to begin with, being tiny and all.

Here are a few basic steps:

1. They must touch the plants enough
2. They have to be absorbed through the plants
3. The plant's site of action has to be breached WITHOUT harming the plant itself (sneaky sneaky!)
4. And they have to accumulate at toxic levels at the 'site of action'

However, a little phenomenon known as the food chain leads to issues when it comes to being safe around these little bros, at times.

You can see how allowing all of these animals to eat the things that ate the things that ate the things that ate the DDT can be a problem. Especially when WE are those animals at the 'top' (sorry mr. hawk).

So keep an eye out for these pesticides! Not that it'll help, because they're invisible and whole foods doesn't like to tell y'all that kind of stuff. Keep a lookout for the next microblog - how to stay aware and awake and away and all of your other favorite a-words from pesticides!
